How-to guide

Manage your account

Open Profile from the portal header to reach Account settings.

The account settings cards cover:

  • Profile: your avatar and display name.
  • Email: the address used for sign-in and notifications.
  • Password: your local password.
  • Security: two-factor authentication (2FA), also called multi-factor authentication (MFA), and recovery codes.
  • Connections: Google, Microsoft, and GitHub sign-in providers.
  • Sessions: browsers and devices where your account is signed in.

Select Profile.

  1. Update your avatar, first name, or last name.
  2. Select Save after changing your name.

Both name fields are optional. Your saved name appears in the portal header and your Team’s member list.

Select Email, enter the new address, and select Send verification. Complete the verification sent to the new address.

The portal doesn’t permit an email change while 2FA is enabled. If you must change the email on a 2FA-protected account, first verify that your password or a connected sign-in provider works in the current browser. Then remove the authenticator under Security, complete the email change, and enroll 2FA again immediately.

You may be asked to confirm your password or connected sign-in provider before the change can continue.

If Email reports that 2FA is enabled but Security shows no authenticator app, contact support. The account has an account-security state that must be repaired before the email can change.

Select Password.

  • If your account already has a password, enter the current password and the new password, confirm the new password, and submit the form.
  • If you created the account with a connected provider and don’t have a local password, enter and confirm a new password. If the portal asks you to sign in with the provider again, complete that confirmation, return to Password, and submit the new password again.

Use a password that is unique to synsmarts. Changing a password doesn’t replace the authenticator app or recovery codes configured under Security.

Two-factor authentication is optional. When enabled, signing in also requires a time-based one-time password from an authenticator app.

  1. Select Security.
  2. Select Enroll authenticator app.
  3. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app. If scanning is unavailable, expand the manual setup option and enter the displayed secret.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code generated by the authenticator app.
  5. Select Confirm.
  6. Copy or download the recovery codes and store them securely.
  7. Confirm that you stored the codes, then select Continue.

Recovery codes are displayed once. Each recovery code can be used only once. Don’t send an authenticator secret, 2FA code, or recovery code to synsmarts support.

After entering your normal sign-in credentials, enter the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app.

If the authenticator is unavailable, select Use recovery code instead and enter one unused recovery code. A used recovery code can’t be used again.

Select Security, then select Regenerate recovery codes.

You may be asked to confirm your password or current authenticator code. After confirmation, return to Security and select Regenerate recovery codes again.

Regenerating codes immediately invalidates every previously issued recovery code. Store the new codes before closing the page; they are displayed once.

Select Security, then select Remove authenticator and confirm the warning. You may be asked to reauthenticate before the removal completes.

Removing the authenticator also invalidates its recovery codes and leaves the account without 2FA. Verify that your password or a connected sign-in provider works before removing it.

Select Connections to connect or disconnect Google, Microsoft, or GitHub.

The portal prevents you from removing your only sign-in method. If a connected provider is your only method, set a password or connect another provider before disconnecting it.

Select Sessions to review each signed-in browser or device. The list shows the current session, device information, IP address when available, and recent activity.

Select Revoke to sign out a session you don’t recognize. Revoking the current session signs you out of the portal.

If the portal reports No team yet, your account has no active Team membership. Create a Team, or ask a Team owner to invite you again. If neither is possible, contact support with the email address on your account.
