Restore media

Media restore recovers versioned objects without taking the App offline. Use it for uploaded media that was overwritten or deleted. Media versions and their retention are listed in Backup types and retention.

You must be a Team owner or admin, restore must be enabled for the App, and no other restore can be active.

  • File restores one exact media path.
  • Folder restores files under a path ending in /. Choose Just this folder’s files to exclude subfolders, or This folder and everything under it for a recursive restore.

The path can be up to 1024 bytes. The path must end in / for a folder preview. An empty path is never treated as the entire media library.

  1. Open the App and select Backups.
  2. Under Media files, select Restore a file.
  3. Enter the object’s media path.
  4. Choose the restore time and time zone.
  5. Wait for synsmarts to resolve the version at that time.
  6. For supported images, review the visual preview.
  7. Select Continue, review the frozen path and version time, enter the typed App name, and select Restore file.

The preview is advisory. The version is resolved again when the restore runs. If the version expired, disappeared, or no longer matches the requested time, the operation stops instead of copying a different version.

  1. Choose Folder.
  2. Enter a path ending in /.
  3. Choose whether to include nested folders.
  4. Choose a restore time inside the version-history window.
  5. Wait for the preview to count files and total size.
  6. Select Continue, review the frozen scope, enter the typed App name, and select Restore folder.

The preview can list excluded subfolders for a non-recursive restore. If no files had a recoverable version at that time, the restore can’t start.

Files added after the selected time stay in place. If a file was absent or deleted at the selected time, synsmarts skips it instead of deleting the current file and includes it in the result counts.

A self-service folder restore is limited to 10,000 files. For a larger scope, restore a smaller folder, choose individual files, or contact support.

Your App remains online during file and folder restore.

A folder restore can complete completed with errors when individual files can’t be restored. Review the restored, total, and skipped counts in Restore history. Don’t rerun the entire folder until you understand which objects failed; files that already succeeded have already been changed.

Restoring a file creates a new current version; it doesn’t erase the version that was current before the restore.

For folder restore, each replaced file retains its previous current version for the media-version retention window. The portal doesn’t currently offer a media Undo action. Contact support promptly for a coordinated file or folder reversal while those versions are still retained.

  • Version not found or expired: choose a newer restore time. Media versions aren’t retained indefinitely.
  • Folder too large: narrow the folder or restore selected files.
  • Restore could not be started: no file was changed; correct the reported problem and retry.
  • Folder restore failed: review Restore history to determine which files changed before retrying.

Media versions have a finite retention window. Start recovery as soon as you notice an unwanted overwrite or deletion.
